GM Diamond Cricket Bats: Every Grade From 404 to Original

Gunn & Moore Diamond cricket bat

The Gunn & Moore Diamond is GM's Ben Stokes range: a mid-swell bat with a full blade and a contoured spine, built for all-round strokeplay. We stock the 2026 Diamond in four grades, the 404, 606, 808 and Original, from £152.99 to £489.99, and junior Diamonds from size 2. This guide explains the Diamond profile, what the GM grade numbers mean, what independent testers made of it, and lists every Diamond we stock with our prices on 20 October 2026.

The Diamond Profile

Every 2026 Diamond in our stock carries the same measurements in its specification, whatever the grade:

  • Blade and handle: GM's traditional L555 blade length with a 295mm handle.
  • Swell: mid, for all-round strokeplay.
  • Face and bow: an F4.5 face profile and GM's Powerarc bow.
  • Shape: a traditional full blade with a flowing contoured spine.
  • Grip and willow: GM's Halo grip, made in England from English willow.

The 2024 Diamond 808 we still stock is specified differently, with a shorter 540mm blade and GM's Hex grip, so check the listing if you are choosing between years. Among GM's other shapes, the Rival has a mid to low swell, the Galaxy a mid to high one and the Aion a low one. Our guides to the GM Rival, GM Galaxy and GM Aion cover those, and our GM cricket bats review compares every range.

What the GM Grades Mean

The number is the willow grade, and it rises with the willow: the 404 is the entry English willow Diamond, the 606 and 808 sit above it, and the Original is the top grade in the range. The shape is the same at every grade. The 2026 Diamond listings do not give a willow grade for each number, so the price is the clearest guide: £152.99 for the 404, £199.99 for the 606, £339.99 for the 808 and £489.99 for the Original. The biggest single step is from the 606 to the 808, £140, so pick both up if you can.

Willow at the top end has become expensive across the trade. City AM reported in February 2026 that top Grade 1 bats had more than doubled in price over a decade, to around £1,000, because of global demand for willow and historical under-planting.

What Independent Testers Said

The Cricketer has tested the Diamond twice, both times in the 909 grade, which we do not currently stock. Its 2024 review of the Diamond DXM 909 scored it 7.8 overall, with 8.2 for pick-up and feel. The test bat weighed 2lb 9oz with 30mm edges, at an RRP of £380, and the verdict was that it was lighter than expected but packed a punch. Magazine editor Huw Turbervill said "Gunn & Moore have really gone up in my estimations with this bat", and one student tester liked that the middle sat "a bit higher up" for players who wait on the ball.

An earlier test in 2022 was more divided, scoring the Diamond 909 7.2. That bat weighed 2lb 7oz with 31mm edges at an RRP of £330; most testers found it light and well balanced, but journalist Nick Friend found the blade too top-heavy.

Who Uses the Diamond

Ben Stokes. The Cricketer's 2022 review described the Diamond 909 as designed specifically for the varied demands of Stokes's game across all three formats, and the Players Edition above carries his name. Our page on what bats the pros use covers the other makers' players.

Which Diamond to Buy

  1. Club player on a budget: the 2026 Diamond 404 at £152.99, or the 606 at £199.99, which we have in three weights from 2lb 8oz to 2lb 12oz.
  2. Regular weekend batter: the 2026 808 at £339.99, in 2lb 9oz to 2lb 11oz, or the 2024 808 at £269.99 if its shorter 540mm blade suits you.
  3. Top grade in the range: the Diamond Original at £489.99.
  4. The Stokes bat itself: the Ben Stokes Players Edition at £879.99, in our Players Edition cricket bats collection.
  5. Junior on hard ball: the 2026 606 junior at £149.99, in sizes 4 to 6, or £169.99 in Harrow.

If you play almost everything off the front foot, the lower swell of the Aion may suit you better; if you want a higher middle, look at the Galaxy. Whichever you choose, our guide to knocking in a new cricket bat covers preparing it.
