GM Aion Cricket Bats: Grades, Profile and Prices

Gunn & Moore Aion cricket bat

The Gunn & Moore Aion is GM's low-swell, big-edged bat for front-foot play. Every Aion we stock is a 2025 model, in five senior grades from the 606 at £164.99 to the Original at £499.99, and its listings state the willow grade behind each number. As a 2025 range it costs less than the 2026 GM families at the same number: an Aion 808 is £299.99 with us, against £339.99 for a 2026 Diamond, Rival or Galaxy 808. This guide explains the Aion profile and grades, what independent testers made of it, and lists every Aion we stock with our prices on 28 October 2026.

The Aion Profile

Every Aion in our stock carries the same shape in its specification:

  • Swell: low, for front-foot play.
  • Edges and spine: huge edges with a sweeping spine.
  • Face and bow: an F2 face profile and GM's Powerarc bow, on a traditional full blade.
  • Grip and willow: GM's Fuze grip, made in England from English willow.

The listings do not give an edge measurement, but The Cricketer's 2025 test bat had 39mm edges, close to the 4.0cm maximum that MCC Law 5.7.2 allows. Among GM's other shapes, the GM Rival has a mid to low swell, the GM Diamond a mid swell and the GM Galaxy a mid to high one. Our GM cricket bats review compares every range.

What the GM Grades Mean

The number is the willow grade, and it rises with the willow, with the Original at the top. The Aion listings say the range comes in seven grades of English willow, and they state the grade for the ones we stock:

  • 606: seasoned, unbleached Grade 3 willow.
  • Signature: seasoned, unbleached Grade 2 willow.
  • 808: seasoned, unbleached Grade 2 willow.
  • 909: seasoned, unbleached Grade 1 willow.
  • Original: seasoned, unbleached Grade 1 willow, described as superior.

The Signature and the 808 are given the same grade, yet the 808 costs £105 more with us, and the Original is £170 above the 909. The listings do not explain those gaps, so pick up the bats either side of a price step before you decide.

What Independent Testers Said

The Cricketer has tested the Aion 606 twice, and the 2025 bat did better. Its 2025 Aion 606 review scored it 6.9 overall, with 7.4 for build quality and 6.6 for pick-up. The test bat weighed 2lb 12oz with 39mm edges, at an RRP of £195. England all-rounder Bryony Smith found it too heavy for her liking but praised its middle; one student called it "a brilliant middle", and the review noted a square toe as a modern touch.

The 2024 Aion DXM 606 scored 6.1. That bat weighed 2lb 11oz with 37mm edges, several testers found it too heavy, and the handle proved unpopular. Former England bowler Alex Tudor said you have to hit it in the sweet spot, adding that for a player "going out to whack it, this bat is probably perfect for you". We sell the 2025 Aion 606 at £164.99, in 2lb 10oz, two ounces lighter than the 2025 test bat.

Which Aion to Buy

  1. Club player on a budget: the Aion 606 at £164.99, the grade The Cricketer tested.
  2. Grade 2 willow for less: the Aion Signature at £194.99, the same willow grade as the 808 in its specification.
  3. Regular weekend batter: the Aion 808 at £299.99, in three weights from 2lb 8oz to 2lb 11oz.
  4. Grade 1 willow: the Aion 909 at £329.99, in 2lb 10oz or 2lb 12oz.
  5. Top grade: the Aion Original at £499.99, in 2lb 9oz.

The Aion is a heavy-feeling bat in both tests, so if pick-up matters more to you than edge, the Diamond or the Galaxy may suit you better.
